With two kids two and under, you wouldn't think I have much time to get ready, and I don't! But for times when the stars align and the boys have a dual nap, sleep in (and I don't along with them), or my husband and I go on a date, it's nice to have a vanity to make getting ready feel all the more special. I started looking for inspiration on Pinterest and from YouTube beauty vloggers. I kept seeing Ikea Malm dressing tables popping up over and over again, and it's easy to see why. They are affordable, modern and simplistic, and have plenty of drawer space to stash makeup items out of sight. It's one of Ikea's "New Lower Price" items so it now sells for $20 (CAD) less than when I purchased it. The dresser is easy to set up (or so my husband says), and it comes with an anchoring device to secure it to the wall. This is an important childproofing step to prevent the dresser from tipping over and harming your child (Ikea has recalled Malm chests and dressers for this very reason). For a dressing chair, I loved the look of ghost chairs but didn't want to pay the steep price tag. Luckily, London Drugs sells a ghost chair for a fraction of the price. They even go on sale from time to time if you periodically check the website. The wall mirror is from West Elm. It was definitely a splurge but I think it was worth it. It has an antique brass-finished frame and the mirror itself is crystal clear. The showcase shelves are from Indigo. They come in a set of three and they are perfect for displaying small items. The potted succulent is from CB2. It's my favourite type of succulent - fake. I can take care of two boys but I am incapable of keeping plants alive! I had to cut off part of a leaf in order for it to fit on the shelf, but you would never know! The finishing touch was the fluffy pale pink pillow cover from West Elm. I wanted to add a little texture and colour to the otherwise crisp white, copper, and brass tones. Mugs, holders, and trays are used to display my makeup, but I will save my makeup collection and storage for another post. My parents are visiting in a week, so along with their company, I am really looking forward to spending more time at my vanity and going on a few dates with my husband!
