August 2016 OOTM
August's outfit of the month is what I wore to a friend's outdoor wedding. My dress is the Cold Shoulder Bardot Dress by Topshop (purchased at Hudson's Bay). It is currently sold out online in the regular fit (the one I'm wearing), but you can find it in store, or purchase it online in petite for $5 less. It is listed online as grey, but the colour in real life is more of a greyish/blue/lilac. The straps are adjustable and the off-the-shoulder frills are elasticated to stay in place. The dress is unlined, but the material is thick enough that it's not see-through. For shoes, I chose the Rosetta Soft Knot Sandals from Topshop at Hudson's Bay. I first saw these sandals in Fleur DeForce's GRWM (Get Ready With Me) Summer Wedding 2016 video (at the 4:38 mark). I thought a silver metallic shoe would compliment the grey/blue/lilac tones in the dress perfectly and that the tie-up straps would add a fun and unique twist. At 3", these sandals are my highest heels, and I get that to some of you that's going to seem tragic! Despite having a husband who is over a foot taller than I am, I'm not much of a high heel girl. I still haven't quite mastered how to walk in them! Luckily, block heels are on trend because they are much easier to walk in than stilettos, and they are perfect for outdoor weddings because you won't end up sinking into the grass. I wore the sandals for the ceremony and they were actually a lot more comfortable than I was expecting! Having said that, I wore a different pair of shoes with a lower heel for the reception because I knew I would be doing a lot of dancing and I didn't yet trust myself to not break at least one of my ankles! To finish the look, I accessorized with a quilted leather crossbody bag from Zara. The bag is a true dove grey suede with a multi-chain shoulder strap that I tucked in to covert it to a clutch. It was the perfect size to hold my phone, ID and credit cards, car keys, and lipstick. I love how the outfit came together and I can see it working well for other special occasions in the near future!
