Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I love to share life hacks and reviews, while raising my boys in Canada's 'New West', Calgary, Alberta.

Munchkin Push to Close Extending Metal Gate Review

Munchkin Push to Close Extending Metal Gate Review

September is National Baby Safety Month, but of course it is important to keep safety in mind all year long. As part of Baby Safety Month, Mommy Connections Calgary was kind enough to provide me with the Munchkin Push to Close Extending Metal Gate for my review. The timing couldn't have been more perfect, as my youngest son has recently started crawling! My husband and I babyproofed our home during this stage for our eldest son who is now two. We installed gates at the top and bottom of the stairs, but our basement was undeveloped at that time. Since developing our basement into a play area for the boys, the bottom of the basement stairs was the perfect place for the gate (the door to the basement stairs is protected by this lock by Safety 1st). This is the third baby gate that my husband has installed (the other two being the Kidco Angle Mount Safeway Gate and the Babies R Us Banister & Stair Gate). This one took the same amount of time (approximately 30-60 minutes), to install. Precision was required so that the hinges and catches (parts screwed into the wall or banister), lined up properly. It came with easy to follow instructions and a guide for how far above the floor the gate should be installed and how to properly position the hinges and catches. You can check out the Munchkin website for a helpful installation video

The gate closes without needing to lift it and it automatically locks into place. It opens by pushing the lock to the side and lifting. I am easily able to open it with one hand which is perfect for when I'm carrying my youngest on my hip. It is simple to use, but tricky enough that the boys won't be able to figure it out any time soon! The gate tilts open on its hinge to reduce stress on the wall or banister. It opens in one direction for stairway use, or both directions for doorway use. The gate is very clean looking and is less clunky than many other styles. It is very reasonably priced at $55 CAD.

I am very happy with the Munchkin Push to Close Extending Metal Gate and I would recommend it to anyone looking to babyproof their home. I can now watch my boys play in the basement without fear of one or more of them escaping! Next on my babyproofing to-do list is adding outlet covers!
